Alternative Revenue Bonds
A two-day series on alternative revenue bonds explores how local municipalities were using – and in some instances abusing – this funding stream. The series was awarded second place in the Illinois Associated Press Media Editors contest in the Public Service category.

Confronting the Bully
This four-day series won numerous awards after its publication. Working with editors and reporters from sister publications, I led the project. It examined bullying on a local and national level, and came after reports of suicides in young people as a result of bullying. The series took months of reporting, to interview bullying victims, family members of bullying victims, educators and other experts. For much of the series' data, I commissioned a study of local educators and school administrators by cooperating with the Regional Office of Education.
